If you were arrested and convicted of drunk driving, you will likely be required to undergo DWI school. This is an education program designed to provide DWI offenders with the knowledge they need to make safer decisions in the future. Knowing what to expect when you attend a drinking and driving educational program can help you succeed.

Generally, you’ll be expected to engage in:

An Initial Assessment

When you first begin attending alcohol education, the staff there will conduct an initial assessment to determine what services would benefit you the most. You’ll be asked several questions about your alcohol and drug use and then use this information to decide how many hours of education you need and what program would best suit you.

Group Counseling

Group counseling is an important part of drug and alcohol education. During this time, you’ll have the opportunity to share your story with others who struggle similarly to the way you do. You’ll begin to explore the underlying issues that may be driving your addiction, so you can address the problem at its root.

Drug and Alcohol Education

You will also be required to attend classes that educate you about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body. You’ll learn how different substances impact the brain, lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, and other organs. You’ll find out how much alcohol it takes to become intoxicated in a certain amount of time and how this impacts your ability to function normally.

DWI Education

Another important part of DWI school is learning about the risks and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Many educational programs have public speakers who have been the victim of a DWI accident come to give lectures, and video or photographic materials may be used to illustrate the severity of collisions.

At the end of the program, you should be able to communicate the risks of driving while intoxicated in your own words.
